Thai Food Galore
Hello earthlings! As the title suggest, today's post would be all about food! More specifically, Thai food. In case you don't already know, I love Thai food. Love love love Thai food. I don't really dared to eat Thai food because of how spicy it looks when I was younger but I absolutely fell in love with it since my visit to Phuket, Thailand about 2 years ago. So I have been craving for Pad Thai for ever so yesterday for lunch, I finally have it. It's from my school's Food Court 4 (Koufu). They provide affordable Thai food at cheap prices and my meal which only cost $4 actually includes Tom Yum soup and a choice of either thai salad or tapioca. They give generous servings which ensure you all well-fed through your long day in school. However, in all honesty, this is not the best Pad Thai I had. As I had a recent trip to Bangkok, Thailand about three months ago, this Pad Thai actually taste quite disappointing in comparison to the authentic Pad Thai from Thailand. Still it's quite good and worth a shot. The prawns are really fresh too. Later that day I met with Elton, Cheng Yiin, Darrell and Lee Rong at Bugis' Starbucks where we then walked over to Golden Mile Complex where we were promptly joined by Xiang Qi whom drove there. Golden Mile Complex or better known as Little Thailand by the older Singaporeans. It actually feels like you are not in Singapore when you are in there, not sure if it's a good thing. Haha. Most shops there are Thai food, Thai disco, hand phone shops and mini marts. And yes, there are a lot of transvestites there. This is it, when we were there, the queue was quite long. However as the queue shorten, tables were given to people behind us because they have a smaller group and we ended up waiting around 45 minutes which got most of us pretty angsty. Note: If you intend to come here, come in a group no more than 5. Outdoor seating area and indoor seating area. As you can see, there are plenty of seats around and that they kept opening new tables yet they cannot give us a seat. I call that bad management. Definitely not the cleanest eating place you can expect. The place is quite smokey and badly ventilated. Not to mention we actually saw a cockroach crawling by the table next to us and the manly Elton saved the two petrified girls at the table by catching and killing the roach. New Udon Thai Food. Actually, we went to the wrong restaurant The one I search for was Happy Mookata at Golden Mile Tower, but we mistakenly went to this one located inside Golden Mile Complex. We found out our mistake only later when we're going back to get the car. It's not a buffet and the food only comes in the pre-prepared set which cost $39 per plate. It's this plate of meat with two eggs, some glass noodles and a bowl of vegetables. Since there are 6 of us, they got us to order two of such sets and claim that we definitely would have enough but apparently not. We ordered an extra plate of medium chicken for another $15 which still did not feed us enough. They underestimated us. They gave us two pots and two kettle where we fill the soup ourselves. Their special sauce, not a fan of sauces so this doesn't really interest me. So in cause you have never eaten Mookata before, you are actually given pig lard or pig fat (to put it crudely) where you use it kind of like butter in normal barbecue. The pot is also quite special where the barbecue part is in the centre when at normal barbecue cum steamboat it's the other way around. I find the unique post quite hard to use as it's not flat and the meat would start slipping into the soup sometimes. But I do realize with such shape of the pot, the juice of the meat or oil would actually fall into the soup and makes is pretty flavourful. Pros and Cons I guess. I ordered a cup of Bandung for drink and yes, it taste oddly like strawberry milk instead of Bandung. My cooked meat. In all honesty, it's pretty flavourful and yummy! I have no idea how Darrell managed to put the egg york in the middle of the pot but it looks unbreakable (which it did eventually break in the end). My Mookata pot buddy for the day! Almost done and all of us are still feeling pretty hungry. All the cabbage that came with the plate of meat and a lot of mixed blood from the meat. The guys or my makan buddies for the day! Me and Xiang Qi. The meal was actually supposed to celebrate her birthday which was on 26th April. Will I visit them again? In all honesty, no. The environment and service we got is quite a turn off. But I would try Mookata again from other Thai Restaurants cause the meat is pretty good and the experience is pretty special. Maybe we will try the Happy Mookata at the Golden Mile Tower or Mookata at Eunos some other time! But if you ever decide to try them here is their address. New Udon Thai Food 5001 Beach Road Singapore 199588 Since all of us are not full and we are around the area, we decided to head over to Rochor Original Beancurd for some dessert. It's like my second time here, first time of which was with my no longer existent clique, SoDaPia, three years back. The prices of the beancurd, pretty good but I can't help but notice that all of the service staff are not locals. Not that I have anything against it but it didn't used to be that way. Haha. My tau huey was really good! Love the texture which is pretty special and yummy, quite different with other traditional tau huey. Lee Rong's Grass Jelly tasted really good too, which was the first time I was trying that over here. I also got an egg tart for $2. Which is pretty good too. But you got to the try Macau's version of Portuguese egg tart which is yum yum! The place is actually quite hard to reach without a car cause it's quite far from the train station but it's worth a shot! Rochor Original Beancurd 2 Short Street Singapore 188211 Time for some clique photo. Quite bad quality but it's very hard for us to meet so the photo is actually quite meaningful cause we finally to meet all together. No less! See this cray cray boy! HAHAHA. And finally the last photo of me and my back seat buddies squeezing inside Xiang Qi's Volvo~
And that's basically it! Really enjoyed myself and happy that our clique manages to survive 5 years even though there are plenty of obstacles we still manage to meet every now and then (the last time we met full force was Christmas). It's very hard cause every one has different schedules and all but that's what makes finally meeting up a lot sweeter and worth much more right? That's pretty much it! Toodles!
