Shenyang (심양)
Shenyang (심양)683-123 Hannam-dong Yongsan-gu Seoul, South Korea I just came back to my hotel room after over-stuffing myself with food. And hello, the only reason I can blog now is because there is a computer in my hotel room because stupid me decided to be lazy to bring my laptop to Korea and I have regretted my decision for weeks. So today we headed to Itaewon to have some look around and dined at a pretty interesting barbecue place which looks fairly normal from the outside. Here's the menu, if you can read Korean. This place serves mainly lamb. A usual, sides are served first. Onion and what I presumed to be pickles. Then they place some powder seasoning on our plates. What I think might be Cayenne Pepper or Turmeric or something. Some (what we think is) vinegar to brush the meat with. The service staff then brought us charcoal and added water to heat it up. Here comes the first plate of food. Notice how they come in skewers with little star-like thing in the bottom? Load them up and see how awesome looking they are. And the explanation for the stars. Some of the different kind of meat I ate, they are all pretty tender and delicious. Dip the meat to the powder seasoning. WOW. The rack on top is apparently to hang the cooked food so they stay warm but not overcooked. Who came up with such ingenious idea? Then we ordered staples. Mapo Toufu rice and Leng Myeon. I'm a little too late in taking the pictures. And they are both pretty decently good. So yeah, I think this is a pretty unique and ingenious way to eat barbecue meat which is more rarely seen so I definitely recommend people who haven't tried it to do so because it's really this good!
