25 Macarons
Hello earthlings!

If you have been following me on Facebook you would have known that I had a lot of macarons (pronounced: ma-ka-hoon) lately. In case you didn't know, Maraons are a sweet luxury French pastry that looks like cute little hamburgers and they has been getting in trend lately so let me give you a round up of some of the more famous macaron places so you can get some yummy macarons to fill your cravings!

First Stop: TWG Tea
TWG is better known for their teas, and fun fact! Do you know that TWG is actually established in Singapore? I too was surprised. Yep! So we were at ION's outlets but they have a few outlets around town have booths too.

Oh and they sells chocolate too, and it looks pretty good though I didn't try it.

Their tea are packaged so prettily too.

Their sit in area, just so you know, not all their outlets have sit in areas.

Pretty pretty macarons!

I tried their Tea before too, it's pretty good but I'm kind of a coffee person instead of a Tea person.

The paper bag.

The packaging is pretty okay, nothing special.

The macarons, we asked them to choose the most popular flavors. Look at the pretty colors!

From left to right we have:
Vanilla Bourbon Tea & Kaya - Taste pretty yum! I like the Kaya taste but the rest of them find it quite weird.
1837 Black Tea & Blackcurrant - Pretty sour, taste like strawberry jam.
Grand Wedding Tea, Passion Fruit & Coconut - I don't like this. Well, I don't like Passion Fruit and the taste is too overwhelming for me.
Lemon Bush Tea - Taste a bit like dish washing liquid but it's pretty nice. Ironic as it sounds.
Napoleon Tea & Caramel - My favorite of the few, sweet and yum! If you like caramel, then you would like this.
Bain de Roses Tea - Kind of like rose Bandung. Quite sweet. I think it's quite fine!

I like their macaron cause it's quite wet and soft. Not that dry as compared to others that I tried. Their macaron is nicely shaped. But then again, not everyone like a wet and soft macaron, so it's up to personal preference!

We found the TWG's booth at Takashimaya too so it's really pretty accessible.
So yep, each macaron is $2 and there are a few flavors to choose from so if you like soft and chewy macarons you should really try this!

Second Stop: Ladurée
Lo and behold the most famous macaron shop. A well established over 100 years old bakery straight from France and apparently the creators of double-decker pastry, or better known as the French Macaron. They recently open last year and has been garnering large crowds in both booths in Ngee Ann City.

We headed to the main store front on the second storey of Ngee Ann City Shopping Centre.

The store looks high classy and filled with pastel color theme which is really pretty!

Pretty pretty macarons! They have a lot more flavors compared to TWG.

Look at the gold macarons!

They have really pretty boxes available at various prices.

They sell chocolates too!

They also have various gift perfect foods and souvenirs for sale.

They also have another booth at the first storey, though but they have way bigger crowds.

So if you have less than 8 pieces it doesn't really have box unless we pay extra, so here is our macarons in a pathetic paper bag.

Our Macarons!

The first flavor: Pistachio
Very strong coconut taste but I like coconut so it's fine with me. The texture is slightly drier than that of TWG and there is a crust on the surface of the Macaron, guess this what they call a perfect macaron but not the texture I like the most.

Second flavor: Salted Caramel
A little too sweet on this one and the taste is quite strong.

Third flavor: Orange Blossom
Taste like flowers, a very fragrant smell and I kind of like it!

But obviously Siying doesn't like it!

Fourth flavor: Chocolate Coconut Marshmallow
The marshmallow filling is really chewy and the coconut taste gets stronger as you chew it.

Oh and I missed one Raspberry flavor, which is the pink one. It's like strawberry jam filling which I think is quite sour and quite okay...

All of the above costed $3.80 each, which was a bit on a high side. But behold...

Our $7.60 Chocolate Macaron gilded with gold leaf.

The Chocolate tasted really good. As lovers of dark chocolate this definitely won all of our hearts. However the gold is tasteless and I don't think it's worth it.

From reviews from other bloggers, they say that the booth would have shorter queues than the storefront but it wasn't true the other time I was there, but since it's so near each other, I think you all could go and check both places out before purchasing.

Whizzing down Orchard road to the third location to continue our macaron adventure.

My macaron tasting buddies.

Third location: Bakerzin

We're disappointed cause we cannot choose the flavors, all of which are pre-packed. However, I understand that at other outlets allows you to choose the flavors.

The box is clean and sleek, which I quite like.

From left to right:
Lemon - It's quite sour, it's not too sweet and comes with a hint of coconut.
Rose - Tasted like Rose Bandung again, tasted quite normal, nothing special.
Mango - The rest of them say its weird but I'm kind of okay with it because I'm a mango lover, however it doesn't really taste like mango.
Hazelnut - A very nutty taste but it's really dry and hard.
Chocolate Orange - It has a dark chocolate taste and a small cube of orange, we kind of shared the macaron so only Siying tasted the orange. Also, it's added that the orange cube is quite hard too.
Blueberry - It's quite sweet and sour. It also has a weird texture which is quite slimy.

I dislike the texture of Bakerzin macaron. Dry, hard and not that good. Not sure if it's because it's pre packed. Also, don't bother seating in because they didn't even give us tissues or water and they charged us a service charge. I do love Bakerzin for their cakes, but their macarons are really disappointing.

This box of macaron cost us $9.50 for a box of 6 which equates to $1.60 per macaron but really, for this kind of quality... nah.

But just incase you want to give them a try:

Siying cutting the ridiculously hard macarons.

Apparently the sugar rush started to kick in within us.

Checking out the location of the final Macaron place we are going to visit.

Fourth Location: High Society
Really like the ambience there, really very classy and atas (high class).

They have a lot of different flavors too!

Their cupcakes looks really awesome too!

Their hot pink box packaging. Simple, pretty and the gold embossed branding too add a bit more class.

However the looks of their macarons... KUAKUAKUA.

Their macarons look slightly oddly shaped and the size of their filling is not even the same. The box looks kind of too big for the macaron and it just look suddenly so cheap.

Still trying to make it look slightly artsy fartsy.

Nah, can't. It just drooping all over. Just so you know, the girl say the box fits 7 macarons that's why we got 7.

From Left to Right:
Green Tea & Passion Fruit - I honestly don't like Passion Fruit macarons, it tasted really weird. But the green tea taste is quite nice.
Chocolate - Really, who can go wrong with chocolate? But why is their chocolate red? But it's pretty good for me.
Lemon - Way too much cream in this one. Taste like hand soap again.
Earl Grey - I like this, frangrant tea smell. It also has a hint of chocolate which I like, so I'm guessing they have chocolate ganache as the filling.
Orange - Sweet, orangey. Pretty okay but nothing special too.
Coffee - A little nutty taste, I guess this one of those fool proof flavors too so it's pretty good.
Rose - Since we tasted rose flavor in almost every shop, this got to be one of the nicer ones out there. Rose taste is nice and fragrant.

Finally cutting up the last box of macarons, we're so sick of it already.

The texture of High Society is not as bad as Bakerzin but not as memorable as TWG or Ladurée. But there are one or two nice flavors so at the end of the day it's really up to you to choose your favorite macaron! For High Society, each macaron cost $2.30 and a box of 7 cost $14 (which is $2 each). So yeah!

So among the four of us, it's tie! Me and Siying chose TWG while Rita and Doralynn chose Ladurée. I chose TWG because I do prefer soft & slighty wet macarons (I know it's not how it's supposed to be) but also the value for money as it's half the price of the macaron of Ladurée. Well, you can try and tell me which one you people like best!

Yep and we can forget ending off with a group photo. Happy sugar-rushed girls.

Oh while walking pass Orchard Road we saw a display of Mr Lee statues which is kind of cute, and we got to write the book for wishes for Mr Lee's 90th Birthday!

I think it's owned by the guy who wears a goggles and carries a Mr Lee statue around everywhere he goes (who is there by the statues at the point of time). I'm not sure what his name is but I see him constantly in the news. Guess he's Mr Lee's No.1 fan!

Yep. Sorry for the ridiculously long post. I wanted to continue with Genki Sushi post but I guess it'll be too long for your short attention span and I'm way too tired to continue already. (I spent 5 hours writing this post) So I guess I'll post about Genki Sushi tomorrow. Until then, TATA people!
