Ah Yat Seafood, Modern Asian Diner, Häagen-Dazs & Lavender Food Square
HELLOOO!
I think two to three weeks back we met our maternal side of our family for a be-lated Mother's Day meal. My maternal side of the family loves the seafood so of course we're having seafood this time round too. Well actually we want to eat Tung Lok's Peking duck in the same place but my aunt didn't manage to reserve the place before hand but we decided to head down to the place to try anyway.
So we headed over to "The Grandstand" or what used to be known as "TurfCity" before. It's actually located near Bukit Timah but is very hard to travel to. No bus and all, so you'll have better luck if you drive over. The whole place is like under renovation so it's quite handful, but they do have a number of pretty nice looking food places. So Ah Yat is located at the third storey and if you take the lift up, you would first enter the place with all the live seafood which you can choose to eat. (Sad as it sounds) Look at those gigantic crabs! There are so many variety that it almost feel like a mini aquarium, just edible! Lobsters, so red, so many! This weird looking Coconut Crab. They apparently only have one lonely one there. I don't know what is this but it looks quite weird also. And there's so many there that it looks a little scary. Apparently some promotion going on. Yep, after curiously stopping here and there, we finally walked to the entrance to the restaurant. So apparently my aunt residing in United States sent us popcorn! Cheese popcorn! Original Popcorn. Lastly, Caramel Popcorn! Pretty yum and oddly quite fresh and still crunchy! You know how garrett's popcorn would be not as crunchy the next day already, so it's quite surprising that after travelling so far, the popcorns are still yummy! So yep, we ordered the 10 Person "Suckling Pig, Abalone, Shark's Fin & Seafood Set". Look at the PIGGGG! Not a fan of it, but my grandmother absolutely love it so we have it quite often. I never liked the oily skin of the pig, so I usually just eat the meat. This time round the meat is not that oily so it's pretty okay for me. I never liked when the meat is oily too. Next up the Stew Whole Abalone with Japanese Mushroom and Vegetable. I like the Vegetable cause it's quite sweet. And I love mushrooms too. I love my Abalone too, I think I had two of it. Or maybe three. My favorite BAMBOO clams. I must have this every time I go to a seafood restaurant or Ah Yat at least. If you never try this before, it's quite chewy. I like mine steamed with Soya sauce and garlic! Stewed beancurd. I don't really like beancurd. But I like brocoli so this is so so for me only. Shark fin soup. I know, save the sharks. But it's yummy so I can't help it! Hehehe. The chilli crab. Their chilli crab is actually not as nice as the Seafood Republic's or House of Seafood. So it's kind of meh for me. The fried Soon Hock. It's quite crunchy but a little too dry. Could have been better. Noodles are like fool proof. If they cannot even cook a proper noodles, how could they even open a restaurant! Haha. Noodle's best when you drizzle the chilli crab sauce over it. Ma red bean soup. Sweet and creamy. If you eat too much, it can get a little bitter too. My shark fin soup bowls and red bean soup bowls stacked up. Yes, I never stop at one. HAHAHA. I think Ah Yat has it's standards drop quite a lot already. I used to think it's quite nice few year back but to me it's quite "meh" now. But I still think it's a pretty decent seafood place with certain nice food. So yeah! (P/s. Some of the remarks of the above food are given by my mom. HAHAHA) Ah Yat Seafood Restaurant (The Grandstand) 200 Turf Club Road #03-01/02 The Grandstand 6883 2112 Who could forget desserts after a meal?! So we went pass MAD (Modern Asian Diner) which is a combination of Tung Lok for the restaurant part, Dick Lee for the retail part, Bar Stories for their bar, Top wines for their wine cellar and Bakerzin for their Bakery. And as some of my friends know. I am OBSESSED with Bakerzin's Chocolate Amer. The ambiance there is quite chill and relaxing. Pretty much like a bar. And it's quite big. And yes, you order with an iPad too. Love their design. Bold and attractive. So apparently their 50% off is like for their breads only. Cakes and macarons not included. My Chocolate Amer and my sister's Tiramisu cake. Bakerzin's Chocolate Amer never disappoints me!

And the next place I am going to blog about is Häagen-Dazs. I know this looks lame cause Häagen-Dazs is everywhere but I'm blogging this because this is a good supper place! As you all know I already have my driving license and I do drive my friends out for supper every now and then so I'm on a constant look out for food places that open this late. So that day I felt like having ICE CREAM! Where on earth still has ice cream at 11+ other than 7-11?! Well, there is! Holland Village's Häagen-Dazs! It's actually open till 12am on Weekdays and 1am on Weekends! This outlet's pretty big and cozy! I forgot what we ordered but I think it's around $16 and we shared it. It's quite chocolatey and nutty with quite a lot of whipped cream. You can't go wrong with ICE CREAMMMM! Retarded Lee Rong! HAHAHA. Holland Village at night.
So yeah, this would be a good place to go to if you are craving for some good ice cream in the middle of the night!

See this two boys (I am refraining from vulgarities but I always spew vulgarities none stop when I am with them) trying to distract me when I am driving in a jam in the underpass. So we drove all the way to Lavender Food Square because Cong Han wanted to eat their Xiao Long Bao! It's still bustling full of people even though it's quite late already! The Xiao Long Bao place. The Xiao Long Bao is kindly treated by our dear friend Cong Han! Oh nom nom! It's pretty good and the soup of the Xiao Long Bao is niceeee! The Popiah then I think is so-so but Cong Han say it's very nice! I shall bring him to eat some nice Popiah next time. Heehe. Yep, so it's better to drive there cause it's quite far from the train station. But there's a bus stop but I never like to take buses. So I guess you can take bus too! Lavender Food Square 380 Jalan Besar Singapore 209000 So yeah. It's a long post today and I do still have a long line up of blog posts! So stay tune! MUAHAHAHA. Tweet |
