Shenyang (심양)
Shenyang (심양)
683-123 Hannam-dong
Yongsan-gu
Seoul, South Korea

I just came back to my hotel room after over-stuffing myself with food. And hello, the only reason I can blog now is because there is a computer in my hotel room because stupid me decided to be lazy to bring my laptop to Korea and I have regretted my decision for weeks. So today we headed to Itaewon to have some look around and dined at a pretty interesting barbecue place which looks fairly normal from the outside.

Here's the menu, if you can read Korean. This place serves mainly lamb.

A usual, sides are served first. Onion and what I presumed to be pickles.

Then they place some powder seasoning on our plates. What I think might be Cayenne Pepper or Turmeric or something.

Some (what we think is) vinegar to brush the meat with.

The service staff then brought us charcoal and added water to heat it up.

Here comes the first plate of food. Notice how they come in skewers with little star-like thing in the bottom?

Load them up and see how awesome looking they are.

And the explanation for the stars.

Some of the different kind of meat I ate, they are all pretty tender and delicious. Dip the meat to the powder seasoning. WOW.

The rack on top is apparently to hang the cooked food so they stay warm but not overcooked. Who came up with such ingenious idea?

Then we ordered staples. Mapo Toufu rice and Leng Myeon. I'm a little too late in taking the pictures.

And they are both pretty decently good.

So yeah, I think this is a pretty unique and ingenious way to eat barbecue meat which is more rarely seen so I definitely recommend people who haven't tried it to do so because it's really this good! Walking distance away from Itaewon Subway Station!

Pro Soy Crab (프로간장게장)
27-1 Jamwon-dong
Seocho-gu
Seoul, South Korea

Today we went to the crab place that my manager has been raving about. What I've heard is that we had to eat raw uncooked crabs. I didn't know what to expect but I trust it'll be good considering I'm eating with people that works in the F&B industry, they have to know where all the good food are right?!

Here comes the famous Soy Marinated Crab (간장게장)
It's sweet, ridiculously fresh. It's a little salty to eat on it's own but absolutely perfect when paired with rice. And what's more, it's the season now which explains why all the crabs are packed with that beautiful orange crab roe. Deeeeyummm! This is not cheap though, a plate like this cost 80,000₩ which is equivalent to USD 80 or SGD 100 and we had 6 plates of this (thanks boss!).

The body is easy to eat. You just suck the juicy flesh off and enjoy your rice at the same time. But the treasure is at the head of the crab. And this is how you eat it.

First you grab one of the shell, and stir the contains up. Like scrap it off the shell.

Then you put the rice inside and stir. Ohmygod this is orgasm in your mouth.

Then we have this Steamed Egg (계란찜). It was boiling when it reached us. Soft and fluffy yum!

Blue Crab Stew (꽃게탕). Nice soup but don't really fancy the texture of the crab in the soup.

I was so stuffed after the meal cause they keep getting me to eat when I already stuffed my face with a bowl and a half of rice. This place is kind of costly but worth the try. Very local food that is often unheard of by tourist but very yummy! Must try if you are in Seoul!

Sync Korean Fusion Bistro
#03-01 Westgate
3 Gateway Drive
Singapore 608532

Located in a corner of the newly opened Westgate is this Korean Fusion Bar that I've been wanting to try since I saw Mavis' posting about her visit on her instagram a few week back. Since I'm back, I decided to meet with her and head to this place for some drinks and chill.

Pretty lights and it's relatively empty. I'm guess that it's because it's a Monday evening.

Screw Driver Pop: Run with orange popsicle.
The popsicle melted relatively quickly (which I totally blamed the weather for) but I think it's pretty good.

Red Winter: Soju, mint leaves, lemon, watermelon.
I absolutely love this drink. Lightly fragrant and not too sweet, just as I like it.

Raspberry Soju Tini: Soju, lemon juice, raspberries.
I think this is pretty good too but it's a little too sweet for me.

Kimchi Cheese Fries: Fries tossed in kimchi, nacho cheese sauce, scallions.
A pretty special combo but it's quite good too. But I personally don't feel that the flavours fused together that much but quite nice nonetheless.

Yeah, so I think this is a good place to slack, chill and hangout especially since it's not busy and they have a pretty good ambience (some music would be better too). We sat at the outdoor seating and it's still relatively cooling that day. However they need to work on the service like how they forgot to give us forks and paper towels for our fries and how using the Samsung tablet to order still requires staff authorization and I would have to personally walk to one of the staff or keep trying to get a staff's attention (we're the only ones seating outside so there isn't a staff nearby most of the time). Good place nonetheless.

And the girl that I was there for. Haven't seen her in a long long long time!

Sugalight
The Rail Mall
462 Upper Bukit Timah Road
Singapore 678076

Also located in The Rail Mall similar to the previous post is Sugalight which is a sugarfree and low fat ice cream that I have wanted to try for a long time. It's a very small outlet which is barely any seating space but who would reject guilt free ice cream right?

Taking up majority of the space is this ice cream chiller. With the ice cream with blue tags being the premium flavors. I will admit that it's really not a very vast selection of flavors.

That's all for their menu. I would say that their ice cream is decently priced or cheaper than many ice cream parlor out there.

I tried a single scoop of Italian Hazelnut. It's really creamy and have a relatively strong milk taste. I'll admit it's not as good as full-force-guilt-tripping-sugar-packed ice cream but it's really good considering that it's not bad for you. Would definitely try other flavors if given the chance.
